Charity

Mayapur is situated in the rural area of Bengal where the income levels of a majority of the people fall into the underprivileged category and, so, below the poverty line. To add to their anguish, this region is often flooded by the Ganga and Jalangi Rivers during monsoon, making their lives even more miserable. We therefore appeal to all good-hearted devotees to show concern for their suffering fellow beings.

Feed the Poor and Needy

Food for Life Program To get two square meals a day is a dream for many, what to speak of nutritious meals. The children often suffer from malnutrition and other serious health risks. ISKCON Mayapur, through its Food for Life program, offers nutritious Kichuri (a rice preparation mixed with lentils, vegetables, ghee and spices) twice a day to all temple visitors. Food for Life travels to surrounding villages to distribute prasad ISKCON Mayapur is working to conquer hunger in neighboring villages throughout the Sri Mayapur Dhama area by engaging volunteers and qualified cooks to prepare and distribute sumptuous, nutritious, freshly prepared vegetarian meals to all, regardless of caste, creed or religion. During flood time last year, the villagers only hope for sustenance was the food parcels and grains distributed by ISKCON. The prasadam was cooked and distributed from sunrise to sunset as part of flood relief.

Please, please, open your hearts and donate generously for annadan seva. Feeding the poor is our prime duty. Help to bring a smile to a poor child’s face!

Cloth Distribution

Many of the village children do not even have two complete sets of clothes. Winter is cold and miserable here, often creating a health hazard for the poorly clothed local children. Sometimes the temperature falls to six degrees, making the situation totally uncomfortable and unsafe for thin little bodies. Through your donations, we intend to do vastradhan, or giving blankets and clothes to the poor and needy.

Educate a Child & Brighten A Future

One of our schools, Bhakti Vedanta National School, run by Sri Mayapur township trust, provides English medium education at a subsidized rate to the children from poor rural areas. School offers mid-day meals for the children. School is run totally by sponsorships and donations. Please e-mail bvns.mayapur @pamho.net for details.

Emergency Help During Flood Times

Sri Mayapur and adjacent villages are situated in the Ganges flood plain and so are surrounded by the Ganga and Jalangi Rivers on all the sides, making this an island area. Therefore, it is tough to minimize the risk of flood here. Flooding occurs during the monsoon season, which greatly effects the poor villagers sho are already struggling hard for their daily sustenance. Our ISKCON Mayapur flood relief team supplies the basic necessities, such as food, clothing and medical help in their time of need. Medical camps are set up, usually one or two in every village, to attend to the villagers. Medical care is given to those suffering from illnesses such as diarrhea, and they are also supplied with necessary medicines.

We wish to set up a flood relief fund, with the contributions to be used to deliver timely aid to those in need .We will update you on the status of the fund and how it is used in the service of the needy.
