Sri Jagannatha, Sri Baladeva and Srimati Subhadra come out in a Ratha-yatra procession around the campus. A wonderful kirtana, displays of fireworks and exquisite rangolis, or flower decorations greet Their Lordships everywhere.
It is said in the scriptures that as one walks along with the chariot, his number of births in this material world is decreased by as many steps as he takes while following the procession.
Ratha-yatra is a chance for everyone to taste the joy and variety of spiritual life. It gives us a taste of the happy life of Krishna consciousness we are all looking for. It is a chance to absorb our senses in Krishna’s service. Our ears fill with the holy names, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Our eyes gaze upon the colorful chariots with their billowing canopies, the exhibits, the entertainment and the people. So many happy people have come to Mayapur and are able to see Their Lordships, Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra. All of them can relish the darsana and prasada of Jagannatha Maha-prasada.
